ILIA Joins Maryland Faith Leaders in Urgent Call for Peace in Gaza

Ellicott City, MD - November 11, 2024 – The Islamic Leadership Institute of America (ILIA), headquartered in Ellicott City, has joined a coalition of Maryland faith leaders, led by Jewish Voices for Peace, in urging Senator Chris Van Hollen to support resolutions aimed at ending violence in Gaza. ILIA, alongside prominent Muslim leaders, signed and helped circulate a letter calling for Senator Van Hollen to co-sponsor the six Joint Resolutions of Disapproval in the Senate, which seek to block a proposed $20 billion U.S. weapons package to Israel and prevent further escalation in the region.

For ILIA, a national leader in youth empowerment and advocacy, this issue is both urgent and deeply aligned with its mission. “Our faith and values compel us to stand for justice and the sanctity of all human life,” said Imam Ayman Nassar, Founder of ILIA.

Spearheaded by Jewish Voices for Peace, this collective action, involving clergy and leaders from various backgrounds, underscores a shared commitment to peace, human rights, and dignity for all. ILIA played a pivotal role in connecting Muslim leaders to this critical appeal, highlighting the importance of interfaith solidarity in times of crisis.
